ExitReality… 3D self-expression or pimp your space?

By exitreality

Since the launch last week of our Beta sign up program and being featured in TechCrunch (ExitReality Turns Social Network Profiles Into 3D Spaces) we have had many requests for further information on how the platform works with users’ social network profiles and more importantly, what people can do within their 3D space.

ExitReality instantly gives every social network user their own 3D place that features all of their current content, automatically creating more than 200 million 3D virtual worlds.

Free, as well as easy to use and decorate, users can meet and chat to friends in their own or other people’s 3D spaces.

Anyone can quickly enhance a 3D place without the need for complicated 3D software. And just like everyone’s profile in 2D, users’ 3D spaces are unique through a combination of their own content (videos, photos, music and wall posts amongst other things) and ExitReality’s unique decorating feature.

Within ExitReality you can choose the look and feel of your space and then decorate it with anything from standard household objects and furniture through to objects including drink vending machines, exotic cars, 80’s style arcade games and snow globes. ExitReality users can choose from a ‘whole world’ of decorations.

The image below shows a before and after view of how a typical social network profile, in this case a Bebo profile, looks using the platform.

In the above example you can see where elements of the user’s profile, like photos and background images, are imported into the 3D environment.

Here the profile owner can then move, enhance, copy or change the various objects included within the room template… or choose a new look entirely.

ExitReality works with Facebook, Bebo, Hi5, MySpace, Orkut and Friendster.

If you have any suggestions for other social networks you would like to see this platform work on, please let us know through the comments below.

Greetings, first up congrats on this development. This is an important step towards the virtual net. I am CEO of The Bible Society in New Zealand (though an aussie from Perth) and I have a serious interest in the virtual. A year ago I set up a fully functioning Anglican Cathedral in Second Life (for background see: http://brownblog.info/?p=381 )
which is attracting a lot of attention. I would love the chance to chat sometime about possible collaboration. I am contactable at mbrown[at]biblesociety[dot]org[dot]nz

And a quick comment: why ExitReality? One of the most significant criticisms I face (ill-founded) is that the virtual is not reality, that it is about escaping reality. I would have thought EnterReality would have been more useful!

Hi, my name is Paul and am currently testing the beta using firefox. I think it’s a wonderful idea and am excited to see more content. This is obviously marketed to the next gen internet users who enjoy online content and networking as well as video games and virtual environments. The only issue that I see right now would be the speed of the avatar and the controls. I was getting a little frustrated manuvering the environment. I also had a problem with viewing myspace. I was trying to view a profile that was restricted and could only be viewed by actual friends. There isn’t an option to log in so I could view the page. Maybe I was doing it wrong so I’ll keep playing with this software until I get the hang of it. Like I said, it is still a wonderful idea and I can’t wait for the official launch. Keep up the great work.
